Stoa Digest #09: The classes were loaded,
The Discord wasn't.
Highlight of the Week
The skill of the interview
The thing that will make you stand out, when giving an interview, is always how good a storyteller you are.
Being the most authentic version of yourself, requires reflection and mental stillness to be able to authentically feel the value of the experience you’ve been through.
A story sets it’s base or context, then a rising action is something that helps anchor it, before it heads into a climax and succumbs to a falling action before it is resolved.
A good story reflecting your skills & values really well in a situation, will give you 10x the edge of the next interviewee for a recruiter.
Quite a few of people usually represent the skills one has, but not necessarily the values, reflected through your actions in a situation.
Your best bet will usually be exhibiting your values & skill through past experience & actions taken.
Let’s Rewind: Last Week at Stoa
“Anyone with common sense can be good at Marketing" was something that we’re sure stuck with a lot of fellows from Cohort 3 post their Learning Weekend.
Gurudev Prasad, Sandeep Nair, and Suharsh Dikshit from Busy Bee brands came over to Stoa for a 3-hour masterclass on Consumer Behaviour & Insights mining.
They started with sharing with the fellows of Cohort 3 the ‘Fire test’ to help recognise true insights, to teaching them their ‘best practices’ for a heart to heart conversation with customers, and spilled the beans on building the Haywards 5000 “Hausla Buland” campaign, the session had it all.
Birthday Parttaaayy! 🥳 🎂
It is our Roasted & frequently Toasted friend Ishaan Kohli’s day of birth tomorrow.
Please only be nice, and refrain from any burns from Birthday Cakes for the day.
Khusbhu Nehita (C3) - Thursday, 12th August
Who is clearly just relying on the “scent” of herself existing in the Stoa community so far, hoping she comes out of hiding sometime soon, and allows us a whiff of herself.
(For non-Hindi speakers, “Khushbu” means scent, hence all the weird puns.)
Community Buzz 🐝
We tried a different activity for our Speed Meeting in the last week, and Femi stole our hearts, but #DatingInPublic won, by cannibalising the most popular thread we’ve had on the server so far, with this GIF.
Speaking of #DatingInPublic - do you have any Pickup Lines you’ve been keeping stored for someone special? Cause Shriman’s looking for them, and documenting them on our thread would help the whole Community, we reckon.
Also, if you haven’t updated your Discord recently, they now allow us to have threads within a channel, which is pretty darn cool to be able to banter to your heart’s content.
When typing a message out, you should have a “#” symbol in the top right-handside corner of your message to turn it into a thread.
We recommend taking a leaf out of Shriman’s hat and giving it a spin.
Pratyush, as per the norm now, blew our minds away again when he gave us this breakdown on what work culture is like at Screenr.
If you’re a developer & a Stoan looking for a change, we’d recommend you get in touch with the man himself, right here.
We’ve had a new trend brewing in Cohort 2, and it’s really up to them if they’d like to tell you about it, but safe to say we “influenced” a facilitator to get onboard with this trend as well.
Akshay also caught them out on it here, did you know? what do you think?
Do you have an opinion on which is the most supreme instant noodle of them all? What criteria are you considering?
Random pivot: Do instant noodles work as a date night meal?
