Stoa Digest #10: What's Cooking?
Highlight of the Week
Cohort 2 has been going through some serious Leadership conundrums in their weekend sessions.
While Cohort 3 went through their first simulation, and well, all you’ve got to really see is the #memes channel to have fomo & reminisce about the last time you got to run that simulation, Cohort 2.
We also have an event that we think will be next week’s Highlight of the Week, so keep reading!
Krishing Through Life
So, Cohort 3’s been wondering for a while, why on earth they received a book named, “Masala Lab” in their swag?
The time has finally arrived for them to know.
He’s an engineer, but also plays the violin & jams with his friends - recording music to upload to Soundcloud, & also illustrates self-authored cookbooks for fun on the side.
When he went to the US, he missed all the food he had back home obviously, but there were barely any cookbooks to help guide him through navigating how to cook Indian food for himself.
So, he thought, “why has nobody done this yet?” and that was the beginning of an Engineer bringing his passion of foods & flavour to life.
We’ve rarely seen a human wear this many hats before, as flamboyantly as he does.
His name is Krish Ashok.
We will be hosting the man himself this Thursday, 19th August, 8PM, and there are no pre-reads involved, haha. Just come prepared to be a little mindblown.
Cohort 2 in-case you missed this session last time, now’s your turn to attend it.
Also, Ashok would love to hear what you guys have been experimenting with, in your kitchens!
Let’s Rewind: Last Week at Stoa 📆
Leveraging LinkedIn
In today’s day & age LinkedIn matters more than we think.
It’s very often at least the second result you see, when you Google someone.
That first impression you leave on someone from social media, leaves more of a dent than 6 months later, when they actually do end up meeting you.
Fun fact: Did you have any idea that you could record your name on LinkedIn?
Some of the few things to make your profile stand out are:
Quantify how you worked, in a team, in NUMBERS.
Your “About” is your hook - make it make them want to have a conversation.
Your skills & endorsements actually matter.
Everytime you see a job you find interesting on LinkedIn, look at the skills you need in it’s description & then match those to the ones you already have.
Investing In US Markets w/ Vested Finance
Here were a few of the things Viram left us with post his session:
Investments maximise the greates returns when you diversify your portfolio.
A basic way to think of “diversifying your portfolio” means to pick your assets, so one isn’t affected by the other within your portfolio. The difference b/w investing in India vs investing in US markets mean that you invest a higher currency, hence earning returns on the higher currency too
Something to consider when picking companies to back, in terms of investing your wealth in them, is investing in the future they are working towards, and the value they are creating.
Think of the themes, and what is going to be large as an industry worldwide in the next few years, that we’re missing out in the Indian economy on when it comes to investing.
If you have international goals, it makes sense to save in an international currency as well.
You’ll find the video of this session here.
