How have memes helped me interact with brands?
I started sharing and interacting with memes based on the templates from TV shows which were about to be launched or recently launched, without having the slightest idea that they are inorganically made by creators and shared across platforms as a promotional activity. It caught my curiosity and I deep-dived into meme marketing finding that a lot of brands including Zomato, Swiggy, Elon Musk (personal brand) even political parties use memes as a medium to interact with audiences. Zomato’s 10-min food delivery which took Twitter by storm was one of the biggest such meme campaigns. Even TV shows like Mirzapur and Scam 1992 had memes play a very important role in their marketing.
What inspired me to join meme marketing?
I was one of the backbenchers who would try to make the class laugh. I always saw a funny side to everything in life and while looking to work in something which makes people laugh, I found out that you can make memes and earn money as well. That’s how I connected with my previous company. What surprised me is that a lot of sectors like automotive, and FMCG which are well known for conservative marketing have changed approaches and used memes to reach and engage with wider audiences.
Why all the brands should do memes
Memes are the least expensive and most interactive ways to engage with audiences. With people’s attention span reduced, brands will find it a little tough to engage with larger groups if the communication is not witty or make them laugh. Memes are here to stay for a very long time, every brand should adopt this communication at some point in time, and the best time for that would be now.
